‘Rochdale Borough has some glorious green spaces’
How did you do it?
It’s amazing how much you notice when you simply look up and look around. I ride a motorbike and on days out riding it’s very easy to get caught up in the moment and not notice what’s around you. But now I’ve started to notice all the stunning countryside.
Rochdale Borough has some glorious green spaces and beautiful old buildings, and if you take time to notice them it can really lift your mood – it certainly does with me.
How would you describe your life now?
Taking notice has made me appreciate my rides more, I feel more focused, safe and in control of my bike as I take notice of the feel of the road, the sound of the engine and behaviour of other road users – and the odd stray sheep in the middle of the road!
Stopping at viewpoints to take notice of the surrounding areas also adds to the enjoyment of the day. Noticing how good this makes me feel, I try to hold onto this feeling and recreate it when the daily grind gets a bit too much. I try to take notice when things are getting me down, and schedule in some me time that will help me to focus on the things that make me feel good.
What advice would you give others who are thinking about taking up the five ways to wellbeing?
Start with something easy – think about which of the five ways resonates with you – then try to build a little of it into your everyday life.
